What can you tell me about a cancer treatment called "Cancell"?
Cancell has been promoted as a treatment for cancer and many other diseases for several decades. Cancell is also known as Sheridan's Formula, Entelev, Jim's Juice, Crocinic Acid, JS-114, JS-101, 125-F and Cantron. It is made up of nitric acid, sodium sulfite, sulfuric acid, and other substances. The mixture can be taken by mouth or through the rectum. It also can be applied to the skin of the wrist or the ball of the foot.
Cancel was developed in the 1930s by James Sheridan, a former researcher at the Michigan Cancer Center. The main manufacturers of Cancell say they have performed many animal experiments with the mixture, and that it has been used by many cancer patients. However, these findings have not been published in standard scientific journals, and no clinical trials (research studies with people) of Cancell have been done.
The National Cancer Institute has studied Cancell in the laboratory and in animal studies and found no effect on cancer cells. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not approved Cancell. It has been illegal to manufacture or distribute Cancell since 1989. However, the mixture reportedly is being sold under various other names as a dietary supplement in health food stores.
Cancer patients considering any type of complementary or alternative medicine should discuss this with their doctor or nurse. Some of these therapies may interfere with standard treatments or be harmful when used with standard treatment.
