How can I find out if my state has a smoking quitline?
Call the National Network of Tobacco Cessation Quitlines toll-free at 1-800-QUIT-NOW (1-800-784-8669) anytime. Your call will be electronically transferred to the toll-free quitline in your state. If your state does not have a quitline, you will be transferred to the Smoking Quitline of the National Cancer Institute. State quitline services and hours will vary.
Smoking quitlines are staffed by trained cessation specialists who offer advice, support and referrals to local cessation services. Scientific studies have shown that quitlines are effective ways to help people quit tobacco.
Help with quitting also is available on the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website. The site offers a guide to quitting, instant messaging chats with a cessation specialist, smoking cessation resources, and a map showing the numbers for all state quitlines and the NCI quitline.
Each year, more than 440,000 Americans die prematurely from smoking-related diseases. Quitting smoking has major and immediate health benefits for men and women of all ages.
