If you are a UCSF cancer patient and would like to meet with a dietitian on a one-on-one basis, appointments can be scheduled through any of the oncology practices. The services are open to UCSF cancer patients at no charge, although donations are appreciated.
A dietitian is available Monday through Friday between 9 am and 5 pm.
Questions that the dietitian may address include:
General guidelines for balanced nutrition
Nutrition guidelines for specific cancers
Issues during radiation or chemotherapy
Coping with nausea and appetite problems
Difficulty with swallowing or eating
Problems with constipation or diarrhea
Food safety during cancer treatment
Supplements
Weight management
Metabolic testing - indirect calorimetry
The Resource Center also offers periodic nutrition workshops and demonstration-style cooking classes. (See box at right.) Additional information on nutrition can be obtained through the Resource Center Library book collection, pamphlets, and other written materials.
