Title: Deconvoluting Risk for Preinvasive Disease

Abstract: Screening mammography has reduced breast cancer specific mortality, but has also resulted in a greater than 5-fold increase in the detection of DCIS. Molecular testing may have a role in refining treatment recommendations based upon risk of recurrence or invasion. Further, risk modeling may yield insights about which patients derive greatest benefit from intervention. The future goal of DCIS treatment will be to facilitate evidence-based treatment recommendations driven by biologic risk for invasive progression, patient comorbidities, and individual perception of risk.
