Title: The Precancer Problem: What mouse MIN can teach us about DCIS

Abstract: DCIS is the obligate precursor to invasive mammary carcinoma, but progression rates vary from immediate to never. Although there are many cytomorphologic and molecular correlations, even the definition of DCIS is imprecise, relying on decades old epidemiological assessment of invasive cancer occurrence. In mice, precancer can be defined experimentally, and the processes related to progression can be determined. In these model systems, precancer metabolism affects the regional tumor microenvironment, potentially conditioning and creating a tumor promoting environment.
