Prostate Cancer

Research Summary

The overall theme of my research program is to identify, characterize and target druggable kinases that may drive the progression of aggressive cancers to metastatic disease. During my postdoctoral fellowship, I developed novel approaches to identify outlier kinases in breast and pancreatic cancer and studied the role of these kinases in oncogenic progression (Kothari V et al, Cancer Discovery, 3(3): 280-93). I continued to apply this novel matrix to identify novel biomarkers to distinguish indolent from aggressive prostate cancer, and to interrogate therapeutic targets in advanced prostate cancer (Cancer cell 2015, Clin. Cancer Res 2015, JAMA oncol 2016, Prostate Cancer Prostatic Dis 2015). Apart from identifying biomarkers and therapeutic targtets, I also have an expertise in delineating oncogenic signaling and resistance mechanisms (Cell reports 2016, Clin Cancer Res 2016, Cancer Discov. 2017) and carry out translational research (Neoplasia 2016, Int J cancer, 2010), due to which I am considered as an expert in kinase biology and translational research (Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, 2016). My goal is to apply novel therapeutic approaches to the study of prostate cancer, to help progress the field towards personalized medicine.
