UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center

About the Psycho-Oncology Service

UCSF Psycho-Oncology at the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center is staffed by psychologists and psychiatrists who care deeply about the emotional and supportive care needs of our patients and families as they face cancer and cancer treatment. Our Psycho-Oncology team works closely with Cancer Center providers in identifying and addressing all types of psychosocial distress, including challenges with adjusting to illness, the stresses of medical treatment, emotional needs, relationships and caregiving, coping with pain, insomnia and other symptoms, and much more.  Our providers are trained in behavioral and medication approaches that have been shown to be helpful for individuals facing cancer, cancer treatment,  and cancer survivorship. Our clinical service provides care to individuals being treated at UCSF and is also open to family members. We collaborate with other supportive care programs, such as the Cancer Resource Center, Social Work, Spiritual Care Services and the Symptom Management Service, to provide the best possible care for our patients and their families.

An important mission of UCSF Psycho-Oncology is to raise the standard of psychosocial care across the Cancer Center through educational activities and research that increases awareness and improves the ability of team members across disciplines to share in this important task.
