Overview
The Administrative Core is the backbone of the Bay Area Breast Cancer Translational Research Program. It supports all of the projects, cores, and investigators of the SPORE by providing assistance with communications, grants administration, and budgetary oversight. The Core facilitates and stimulates interaction between SPORE investigators by organizing SPORE meetings including the weekly seminar series, the annual retreat, the annual External Advisory Board meeting, and other ad hoc research and clinical meetings. The Core is responsible for coordinating the Career Development and Developmental Research Programs of the SPORE and maintains the SPORE web site. The Administrative Core consists of the SPORE Director, the Executive Committee, the Program Manager, and an Administrative Assistant.

Resources and Services
The Administrative Core is the organizational center of the Bay Area Breast Cancer SPORE that, in turn, is the intellectual and organization model for the UCSF Cancer Center Breast Oncology Program. The Breast SPORE is integrated into and fully coordinated with the Breast Oncology Program.  Drs. van ‘t Veer and Esserman are Program and Clinical Program Leaders, respectively, of the Breast Oncology Program. Dr. van ‘t Veer and the SPORE manager oversee all operational activities of the SPORE.

Dr. van ‘t Veer provides overall guidance for the SPORE in consultation with the SPORE External Advisory Board (EAB), the SPORE Steering Committee, and the SPORE Executive Committee. She oversees the operation of the Program Development Committee and evaluates and adjusts SPORE projects, developmental projects, career developmental projects and cores to maximize translational productivity and to pursue new leads as they develop. She is responsible for the proper completion of all continuing and competitive SPORE proposals.

Ms. Walker coordinates the combined weekly research meetings for the SPORE and Breast Oncology Program, plans the annual combined SPORE/Breast Oncology Program Retreat, and organizes the annual SPORE External Advisory Board Meeting. She also facilitates communication between the NCI SPORE Program leadership and the Bay Area SPORE investigators; prepares all progress reports, supplement applications, and renewal applications; and organizes and keeps notes at meetings of the Executive, Steering, and Developmental/Career Development Project Committees.
