About Translational Informatics

Translational Informatics Services at UCSF

The Translational Informatics program at UCSF develops and supports informatics applications and shared informatics resources. Many UCSF programs and cores have projects requiring sophisticated informatics solutions, including tissue and specimen tracking, related clinical and patient follow-up information, clinical trials data management, and biomedical informatics based metadata management.

The specific aims of the Translational Informatics program are to develop, deploy, and maintain data systems and applications to directly support all clinical, biomedical and translational research goals. TI maintains and develops data management systems that span a range of users, from individual investigators, to individual programs within the Cancer Center, and to the University as a whole. TI works with researchers, other Cores, and the entire University to fulfill its goals with the ability to provide customizable informatics solutions for all data needs, and pays special attention to providing first rate data consultation services.

Special Capabilities:

• Access, training, and management of Clinical Software Tools
• Access, training, and management of Biomedical Software Tools
• Provide access to Clinical and Biomedical Data for Research Integration
• Research Data Management Solutions including access to High Performance Compute Cluster and allocated software, Pathway analysis and management tools (IPA, GeneSpringGX), and design of Data Collection Models
• Biospecimen Data Management
• Custom Research Software Development including user interfaces
• Oversee and provide guidance for Research Data Privacy, Security, and Quality Control
• Standardize and Harmonize Data Collection Vocabularies and Common Data Elements
• Maintenance of databases, Patient centric data-warehouse, and associated web sites
• Custom data services and consultation support involving specific programming expertise for specialized databases and LIMS
• Provide Biomedical and Clinical Research Informatics domain expertise in support of projects, grants, and the preparation of manuscripts and presentations using study data.
