Ingredients
- 1 package (8 oz) firm tempeh (fermented soy bean cake – available in the refrigerator case in the produce section of the market)
- 1 T low sodium tamari
- 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp finely minced ginger root
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes
- 1 tsp brown rice syrup or dark brown sugar
Directions
- Cut the tempeh into three or four squares.
- Mix all of the remaining ingredients in a small bowl, and then pour the mixture over the tempeh. Lift the tempeh a bit to make sure that marinade gets all over it.
- Let it marinate, refrigerated, for 30 to 60 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
- Lightly oil a baking sheet and top with tempeh.
- Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until thoroughly heated and dry.
Serving Suggestions
- Serve over steamed vegetables and brown rice
- Cube and serve over salad greens
- Use as a vegetarian sandwich filling
