Baked Tempeh Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1 package (8 oz) firm tempeh (fermented soy bean cake – available in the refrigerator case in the produce section of the market)
  • 1 T low sodium tamari
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp finely minced ginger root
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp brown rice syrup or dark brown sugar

Directions

  1. Cut the tempeh into three or four squares.
  2. Mix all of the remaining ingredients in a small bowl, and then pour the mixture over the tempeh. Lift the tempeh a bit to make sure that marinade gets all over it.
  3. Let it marinate, refrigerated, for 30 to 60 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  5. Lightly oil a baking sheet and top with tempeh.
  6. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes or until thoroughly heated and dry.
