Our Research

* Directional statement – lab and clinic

Immunotherapy has revolutionized how we treat multiple different types of cancer. Along with these significantly improved outcomes comes the responsibility of ensuring that all healthcare providers and patients are informed about potential immunotherapy-related side effects and how best to manage them. Immunotherapy as a potential cancer cure is here to stay, and there remains much work to be done in terms of understanding the mechanisms of these side effects, and refining preventative and treatment approaches for patients.

At the UCSF IMPACT Program, we bring together laboratory and clinical researchers across multiple disciplines to achieve our mission of giving healthcare providers, patients, and their families streamlined access to world-class multi-disciplinary expertise in the management of immunotherapy-related toxicities. Our research examines the effect of immunotherapy on various immune system markers in blood and tissue. Our hope is that these studies and ongoing biobanking efforts will translate to scientific discoveries that will result in future to clinical benefit for patients living with and beyond their cancer diagnosis.
