Research Summary
Dr. J. Michael Berry-Lawhorn is a specialist in internal medicine and anal cancer. He helped pioneer the technique of high-resolution anoscopy to examine and biopsy abnormalities in the anal canal.
Berry-Lawhorn is co-director of HPV-related clinical studies (studies related to the human papillomavirus) at UCSF, particularly the form of HPV that can result in the presence of abnormal cells in genital-area skin. He is also involved in studies to develop and evaluate more effective and better-tolerated therapies for anal dysplasia.
Berry-Lawhorn earned a medical degree at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at UCSF and a fellowship in oncology at Stanford University.
