UCSF Announces Two Prestigious Named Professorships in Radiology

The Dean of the UCSF School of Medicine has appointed two esteemed faculty members to named professorships in recognition of their exceptional contributions to imaging clinical care and research, education, mentorship, and service.


Christine Glastonbury, MBBS

Dr. Christine Glastonbury, a leading authority in clinical radiology and vice chair of academic affairs, has been named the Elizabeth A. Guillaumin Endowed Chair in Neuroradiology. With an outstanding career spanning decades, she is celebrated globally for her expertise in head and neck imaging. Her dedication to advancing education is evident in her extensive body of work as an invited speaker, published author, and current president of the American Society of Head & Neck Radiology.

Dr. Glastonbury's impact extends beyond clinical work; she has held key leadership roles at UCSF, including chairing the Academic Senate Committee on Committees. She is a trailblazer as the first neuroradiologist appointed to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network Head and Neck Expert Panel, where she continues to contribute her expertise. Her efforts to mentor underrepresented minorities, women, and parents have left a lasting mark on academia, earning her the UCSF Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Outstanding Faculty Mentoring Award in 2021.

 

Bonnie Joe, MD, PhD 

Dr. Bonnie Joe, a leader in breast imaging, has been appointed the inaugural Edward A. Sickles Professor in Breast Imaging. Her dual role as associate chair for faculty mentoring highlights her commitment to cultivating talent within UCSF Imaging.

Dr. Joe has transformed breast imaging services, broadening access across multiple locations while driving innovation in breast cancer detection and diagnosis. Her work in molecular breast imaging, including the pioneering use of dedicated breast PET, exemplifies her focus on improving early detection and outcomes. Dr. Joe's accolades include the UCSF Radiology & Biomedical Imaging Outstanding Faculty Mentoring Award (2024) and the RSNA Honored Educator Award (2023). She serves on the SBI Board of Directors and co-chairs the 2025 ISMRM Breast MRI Workshop, among other prestigious roles.
