UCSF Health-UCSF Medical Center has been named to the U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals Honor Roll for adult care for the 30th consecutive year, reflecting excellence across a broad range of specialties, procedures, and conditions.
UCSF Medical Center remained tied as the highest-ranked hospital in California and was ranked the best hospital in the San Francisco metropolitan area. The Honor Roll recognizes hospitals that demonstrate excellence across a wide range of clinical specialties and consistently deliver outstanding care for patients with medical conditions ranging from common to the most complex.

The 2026–2027 U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings evaluated 4,494 hospitals nationwide, with 178 hospitals earning a national ranking in at least one specialty.
UCSF Medical Center was ranked the best hospital nationwide for pulmonology and lung surgery, along with geriatrics. It was among the nation’s top 10 hospitals in 10 specialties, more than any other hospital in California, including cancer, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pulmonology and lung surgery, rheumatology, and urology.
In California, UCSF Medical Center ranked No. 1 in six specialties: neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and lung surgery, rheumatology, urology, geriatrics, and diabetes and endocrinology. U.S. News introduced new regional specialty rankings this year in four areas, in which UCSF Medical Center was the best in the San Francisco metropolitan area for cancer; cardiology, heart and vascular surgery; and orthopedics.
