The UCSF Cancer Early Detection and Interception (CEDI) initiative is a bold effort to detect and halt cancer before it takes root and spreads. Led by Margaret Tempero, MD, director of the UCSF Pancreas Center and the Rombauer Family Distinguished Professor of Pancreas Cancer Clinical and Translational Science, CEDI seeks to eliminate the burden of deadly cancers through more efficient early detection.

Although cancer accounts for millions of deaths worldwide each year, many individuals do not follow current recommended screening guidelines despite their proven effectiveness. Furthermore, there are no recommended screening strategies for some of the deadliest cancers, including pancreatic and brain cancers. Through CEDI, we will work out how to make screening more widely accessible and applicable to more types of cancers.
