Flow Cytometry & Cell Sorting

Flow Cytometry & Cell Sorting Instruments and Services

The LCA provides access and training on three ThermoFisher ATTUNE NxT analyzers and one BD FACS CANTO benchtop cytometers with HTS, four BD FACS FUSION cell sorters, a BD S8 Spectral/Imaging cell sorter and one Sony SH800 cell sorter. These systems are primarily used for the rapid analysis and/or sorting of single-cell suspensions. To analyze the light scatter and fluorescence characteristics of a cell population, the benchtop machines are appropriate. To rapidly retrieve or sort a particular sub-group of cells from a mixed sample, a cell sorter would be required.

FACS FUSIONs

BD FACSAria Fusion

The BD FACS FUSION is a high-speed digital sorter that incorporates a fixed-alignment cuvette flow cell. Fiber optics direct and focus five lasers (360nm, 405nm, 488nm, 561nm, and 633nm) onto the alignment prisms and then focuses on the cuvette flow cell. The flow cell allows for improved light excitation and collection optics. The collection optics consist of octagon- and trigon-shaped collection devices, and a total of up to 18 independent signals can be acquired at one time on a single-cell basis, followed by purification of up to 4 cell subsets simultaneously by sorting into tubes or sort single cells into multi-well formats.

BD S8 Discover Spectral/Imaging Cell Sorter

The BD S8 is a state-of-the-art spectral based 5-laser cell sorter. The spectral aspect allows design panels of 30+ parameters. It can sort 6-ways simultaneously into tubes as well as into multi-well formats. The S8 is also capable of generating images of the cells via the 488nm laser. Physical and fluorescent characteristics can be used for gating populations for isolation.
